The 2007 Challenge
Last month I challenged everyone to visit new places
in Corsicana each month in an effort to get to know our
neighbors and to keep Corsicana’s money, in Corsicana. Here
are the Mini Reviews I received for the month.
Coffee Roastery: Great People/Great Coffee/Great Service
By Toni Currington
As a new customer, I can say nothing less than I love their
frozen Cappuccino’s and cream cheese danishes. The best
place to go for
a coffee fix is the Coffee Roastery. I am especially fond
of this location it’s very clean and decorated very cute
they serve great coffee and are always friendly and eager
to engage in a conversation. Their selection of coffee and
pastries is great and I always get my coffee exactly as I
order it. I highly recommend the Coffee Roastery at 310 E
7th Ave.-FIVE STARS
Cassady’s Boutique: Who needs Dallas!
By Tabitha
I drive past Cassidy’s every day, finally, last week my car
must have been on auto pilot, it turned right into the
parking lot. I jumped out & went inside & was very
surprised at what I found. They had a really nice selection
of shoes, and a leopard pair of flats was calling my name.
On the
back wall hung fancy “cowgirl-up ” type T-shirts that had
been bedazzled & there was an array of both chunky &
simplistic jewelry scattered about. At the very back of the
shop there was a fabulous round rack of skirts. Some were
fancy, some were casual. There were loads of crushed
velvet, satins and embroidered Indian brochade, they were
all on sale. I found an ankle length patch work skirt I
just had to have (& am wearing as I write this.) It was
just $17.00 marked down from 30 somthing. I can’t wear it
anywhere without being stopped by total strangers asking
where it came from. Who needs to drive to Dallas to shop!
Cassady’s is close, hip & priced right.
Cassads’s Hair Carousel: No regrets!
By Tabitha
To me, getting my hair cut is second only to getting teeth
pulled. I knew I needed a trim so I bit the bullet & made
an appointment with Beth at Cassadys. Beth greeted me, like
an old friend, the morning of my appointent. We exchanged
girl talk and shared a bit of gossip as she did her thing.
The experience was completely stressless, it was obvious
from the beginning she knew what she was doing & she did it
well. I left the decisions up to the professional, she took
her time & gave my outdated bob a very much needed update.
I will definitely be back to Cassidy’s Hair Carousel at 800
N Beaton, 903-872-5600.

Black History Month Parade
Corsicana celebrated black history month wih a parade
and events at the MLK center. The parade’s founder,
Lanettia Littleton of Little of Blessed Hands Bridal (200
N 12th st) led the parade from downtown, past the MLK
center all the way to Burnett park. Members of the R.O.S.E.
rode in a bright red pick-up truck with signage reading “A
ROSE BLOOMS IN MANY COLORS”. To quote Kimberly, of Angels
at Home, black history is American history, “it’s not just
a black thing, everyone is welcome.“ The event ended with a
feast at Vinnies in the Pace Warehouse shopping center.
Lanettiia’s children were just 2 of the talented performers
to entertain the crowd, with song & dance, as they dined.
on Vinnies famous pizza & spaghettie. Many thanks filled
the room as did fellowship & fun.
We would love for this event to double in size next
year, but as with eveything, that takes volunteers. If you
would like to see this event grow please contact Lanettia
at 903-872-9797 or send an email to
corsicanarose@yahoo.com.

Look Who Came to Town
Dorothy thought it might be fun to make a note of
people who visit Corsicana each month. If you have the
opportunity, ask your shoppers, where they are from & jot
down what they have to say. I will be pleased to print you
visitors locations & quotes in our next newsletter. This
will be a fun & informative way to see who realy is coming
to town! Just yesterday, a tall cowboy from Arkansas,
wandering up Beaton St, was overheard saying “They’ve got
nice lil’ ole’ town here...looks like lots of
revitalization goin on.” Isn’t it nice to know people from
around the country are noticing our progress?

Main Street News
It’s time for a reminder that…The major downtown
parking spaces are allocated to be limited to
two-hours…this allows for a steady flow of customer traffic
for shopping, lunching, and services provided.
In the coming weeks, the City of Corsicana will be
stenciling the curbs of the streets designated as “Two Hour
Customer Parking”, which are Beaton and Collin.
The parking spaces on the side streets (except for
Collin Street) and what few parking lots we have are
intended for those that are downtown for the day.
Business owners and their employees should park far
enough from their shop to allow for their customers to park
nearby, and please note that it is considered, by
traditional downtown standards, to be extremely rude to
park your vehicle in front of your neighbors’ business.
(We know that people will walk miles from a parking
lot to the front doors of the Wal-Mart, but feel they must
park right in front of the downtown store they’re visiting.
It’s a psychological need to see the door.)
Please use your common courtesies for the betterment
of all. If you have questions, please call.
Thank you, Malinda Payne Sharpley
