A Day to Remember
We are ecstatic to announce that the ETTA (East Texas
Tourism Association) Familiarization Tour will be here on
Feb 12Th & 13Th. The tour operators & owners from all over
the US get together to tour towns and to take notes that
will help them plan tours for their customers.
Last year the town gussied itself up, Sharla Allen and
the Parks Depatments swept the streets, windows were washed
and shop owners put out balloons & welcome signs. Our very
special guests were treated to tea at Motycka's, lunch at
Bill's friend Chicken, Leah Blackard, director of the
Navarro Council of the Arts presented copies of Brick Roads
and Back Streets book and Russell Stover gave a shopping
bag of candy. The bus toured our city where each advertiser
in the East Texas Vacation Guide was introduced. Each shop
keeper told the group about their business. Jon Ed Ingham
served as the step-on-guide and gave interesting historical
information. The highlight for most operators was the tour
of the magnificent Cook Center. In short, we fed them, we
housed them, we entertained them & we showed them just what
kind of hospitality Corsicana had to offer. At the end of
the tour, after dozens of cities had been visited , the
city they were most impressed with was, you guessed it,
CORSICANA!
This year we would really like to knock their socks
off! The more impressed they are with our charming little
town, the more tour busses and tourist in general we will
see in 2007 and in many years to come. Tourism equal
dollars & strengthens our economy!
There will be a brown bag luncheon meeting on Monday,
January 22 at noon at the Chamber of Commerce hosted by the
Tourism sub-committee to coordinate this years efforts to
impress! Please join us in making this A DAY TO REMEMBER!
For more information please contact Dorothy Vacek at
903-654-2028 or at vacek@sbcglobal.net Paul Hooper at the
Chamber of Commerce at
903-874-4731.

Rewarding Great Kids
Responsible children grow up to be responsible adults.
The ROSE would like to acknowledge and encourage a few
groups of great kids. The pre-k & kinder students at Sam
Houston, the 3rd graders at Fannin, Cub Scout Troop 253 and
the boys & girls of the Boys & Girls club. They all did
awesome helping out and donating their time to the World
Christmas Market.
Modest checks were donated to each organization as a
special thank you to some great kids!
Today, we are cultivating the leaders of tomorrow!
Please help us by encouraging & supporting children and
children’s projects within our communities.

Yes, there is a Santa Claus!

One cold morning in Dec, a ROSE board member
witnessed a woman dressing her young children in a van, in
a parking lot in downtown Corsicana. Though this appeared a
bit odd, the member went about his daily routine. The very
next morning he witnessed the very same event & began to
wonder. Was this a homeless family living in a cold van in
our very own Corsicana? He was concerned and brought it to
the attention of the ROSE board members and naturally we
took action! We found out who this newly single mom was,
where she was working AND that she did need assistance
getting her feet back on the ground. She had the deposit
and ½ of the first months rent saved for an apartment but
it was still going to take some time for her to have enough
to get moved in. We asked were her kids going to have a
Christmas to which she replied moving into an apt was their
Christmas present. The ROSE knew what they needed to do.
There was a unanimous vote to pay the balance of the
woman’s move in expenses to get a roof over their heads
right away. Within few days individual members donate
beds, a TV, VCR, a rocking chair for the tot, bikes fr the
older children, warm new clothes and all the toys they
could have ever asked Santa for. What a Christmas these
kids had. The board members gathered at Napoli’s
Restaurant and gifts filled the Courtyard. A few days
after Christmas the oldest child was heard saying “ No one
would ever again make him believe there was no Santa
Claus”.
Just one of the many things the ROSE wants to
accomplish is to help those who are trying to help
themselves.

Famous Love Letters
From President Ronald Reagan to his wife Nancy

Feb.14 may be the date they
observe and call Valentine's Day, but that is for people of
only ordinary luck. I happen to have a Valentine's life,
which started on March 4, 1952, and will continue as long
as I have you."
Letter to Josephine from Napoleon Bonaparte, Paris 1795

I wake filled with thoughts of you. Your portrait
and the intoxicating evening we spent have left my senses
in turmoil. Sweet, incomparable Josephine, what a strange
effect you have on my heart! My soul aches with sorrow, and
there can be no rest for you lover; but is there still more
in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings
which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart,
a love which consumes me with fire? Mio dolce amour, a
thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set
my blood on fire.
Nathaniel Hawthorne to Sophia Hawthorne 1838
Dearest, - I wish I had the gift of making rhymes, for
methinks there is poetry in my head and heart since I have
been in love with you. You are a Poem. Of what sort, then?
Epic? Mercy on me, no! A sonnet? No; for that is too
labored and artificial. You are a sort of sweet, simple,
gay, pathetic ballad, which Nature is singing, sometimes
with tears, sometimes with smiles, and sometimes with
intermingled smiles and tears.

From Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to his wife Constanze 1700’s
PS.--while I was writing the last page, tear after tear
fell on the paper. But I must cheer up -- catch! -- An
astonishing number of kisses are flying about --- The
deuce!-- I see a whole crowd of them! Ha! Ha!...I have just
caught three-- They are delicious! -- Adieu--Dearest, most
beloved little wife-- -- Adieu. I kiss you millions of
times.

Free Enterprise
The Boys & Girls Club of Navarro County, Free
Enterprise Club has been very busy in 2007! They have been
learning to combine math, science and business skills to
create their own free enterprise project.
These very busy boys and girls have formulated bath
salts, glycerin soaps, milk baths, doggie biscuits, neck
noodles and more. The bath salts are in both men’s &
women’s fragrances & would be perfect valentine treats for
your special someone at just $2.50 The milk baths are in
adorable tea bags and come three tea bags in a bundle,
$3.00. The doggy biscuits were baked with love & care for
our furry friend & there is no doubt at (6) cookies for a
dollar your dog will adore you! Neck noodles are long
cylindrical pillows stuffed with herbs. They can be put in
the freezer and used as a cold bag to cool you off, or put
in the microwave for a "hot pack" to relax you or assist
with little aches. At $5.00 a noodle, you can‘t go wrong!
The glycerin soaps are in assorted decorative shapes &
scents, some with loofah slices in them to help exfoliate
that dry skin and get your circulation moving. More goodies
will be coming in. There are a few sewing projects under
way & a valentine surprise or two.
A portion of the items made are being sent to
Soldier's Angels who then send them to military hospitals
and "over there" for wounded military personnel.
The free enterprise club is selling their merchandise
at The ART SPOT which has donated a booth to the cause. The
kids have the first booth, front & center as you walk
through the door. The ART SPOT is at 122 N Beaton.
Come on out & support a great bunch of kids. Show
them hard work really does pay off!
